Johno7439 Posted 23 April , 2013 Share Posted 23 April , 2013 575 Dvr McDermid was my great grandfather on my mothers side. He survived the war but was wounded (gunshot wound). His MIC states he entered France on 27.8.1915. He always told his son, (my great uncle) that he served with 150 Brigade RFA, but the dates just do not match up. 150 Brigade RFA did not make it to France until November 1915, along with the rest of the 30th Division. I have no idea why he would not mention that he was in France in the August of 1915. Are their any RFA experts who can perhaps pin him down to another unit? I don't have ancestry (and am unsure if it would be of any help in any case).
roughdiamond Posted 23 April , 2013 Share Posted 23 April , 2013 You could try the medal rolls, however I believe the RFA didn't always list the Brigade. Sam
David Porter Posted 23 April , 2013 Share Posted 23 April , 2013 The SWB Rolls, which are also on Ancestry, give him being discharged from 150 Bde on 27-05-19 due to wounds. He had enlisted on 31-08-14. It would certainly be a useful exercise to find other men from his area who enlisted at the same time with similar low numbers to see if there is a pattern.
