8 Btn Durham Light Infantry August 1917

I am currently trying to find out as to where D Coy 8 Btn Durham Light Infantry were serving on 2nd August 1917. I am aware that the 6th and 8th were amalgamated sometime in 1915 after heavy losses. So far I haven't found out as to when of if they went their separate ways by 1917.

My great grandfather Pte 203170 William Jacques of Houghton le Spring, County Durham received a gunshot wound to the head on 2nd August 1917. His field medical card AF W 3118 which I possess states that as a battle casualty he was initially treated by 22nd Northumbrian Field Ambulance before being admitted to 6 General

Hospital, Ward 11, before return to the UK. He survived the war receiving his silver war badge and wound stripe and finished his service in a Labour Btn.

I would be grateful if anyone may have information at hand that could pin down my great grandfathers location on 2nd August 1917 or that of the medical units from whom he received treatment.

I am a regular visitor to Belgium and would really like to bottom out where he fought in either Belgium of France and visit that battlefield

If you look at the link in my signature I have transcribed the 6th Dli diary which has some information regarding the 8th Dli and the period of the merger. There are also other mentions throughout the diary.

I haven't yet transcribed August 1917 but I'll take a look and see if anything is mentioned.

I have the pages from the war diary - if you can provide me an email address by private message I'll send you the pages - let me know if you want to visit the area and need a map location. D Company were in Cuckoo Reserve. No casualties are mentioned on the 2nd but it could have been from the night before.

Kind regards

Colin
