Rob Chester Posted 18 April , 2013 Share Posted 18 April , 2013 If you look at the National Archives Records On Line, you can check the "British Army medal index cards 1914-1920" I just did a quick search and found 105 hits when searched George Watson and Artillery. If you have access to Ancestry.com you can check to see if his papers survive, but as many were destroyed by the blitz it is always a long shot. Many libraries have free access to Ancestry if you don't have it at home. Do you have any more information about him, how old was he? Do you know his regimental number? Ron Clifton Posted 18 April , 2013 Share Posted 18 April , 2013 Hello Hamesie If he was with the RHA in Aldershot in 1914, he was with one of I, J or L Batteries, all of which went to France in August with the original British Expeditionary Force. battiscombe Posted 5 June , 2013 Share Posted 5 June , 2013 most RHA in 1914 are listed/indexed as such in the 1914 star medal rolls. There is a George Watson in 3rd Brigade RHA - D and E Bty after mobilisation. he may be identifiable in 1911 census, which 'might' be a guide to his unit in 1914. I dont see him in L Battery in 1911
Roger D Posted 1 December , 2013 Share Posted 1 December , 2013 Apologies for dragging this up after a long time but I have only just seen it. St Michael's will be St Michael's Road. I'd check the 1911 census. St Michael's Road has hardly changed. It is in an area known locally as the saints. Generally built around 1895 with lots of army / ex army residents in the early days. If you can track down a house number I will happily provide a photo of the house as I live in the next road.
