Mark Hone Posted 9 April , 2013 Share Posted 9 April , 2013 No doubt I am missing something obvious but could someone enlighten me on the meaning of this abbreviation? One of our old boys, Tom Foster served in this unit. An intriguing note in the 1918 School Yearbook records that Foster, now RAF of course, 'has flown from Hendon to Egypt with two stops'. topgun1918 Posted 9 April , 2013 Share Posted 9 April , 2013 Mark The Second Supplement of the London Gazette of 7 February 1919 (published on 8 February) carries the following: Air Ministry, 8th February, 1919. AWARDED THE AIR FORCE MEDAL. 32511 A.M.1 Thomas Foster (Bury, Lancs.). Your man? Unfortunately, like all Great War AFMs, there was no accompanying citation so nothing to say why the award was made. centurion Posted 9 April , 2013 Share Posted 9 April , 2013 I believe that the Handley Page o/400 bomber flew out in "2 hops" perhaps he was part of the crew?
Mark Hone Posted 9 April , 2013 Author Share Posted 9 April , 2013 That's him. Intriguing. There may be something in the local paper about the Egyptian flight. I shall report back.
