Isn't that the church/Abbey at Poperinge?

EDIT: Funny how the visual memory plays tricks. No it isn't.

Is it definitely western front as i think i have seen something similar in Italy, possibly Cittadella or Castel franco. The brickwork looks flemish but i am sure i saw that same road on another picture of Italy

The architecture of the buildings at the rear left looks Flemish/NE France. The apparent number of storeys would suggest a large city.

Can anyone identify the motorcyclist's unit ? That might help

My first thought was that the building was the basilica in Boulogne-sur-Mer. It doesn't match, though. (Just in case anyone else was thinking the same thing).

Your man on the motor cycle, cap badge could be tank Corps , at times a motor cycle rider went ahead of Armoured cars ( 17th AC Bt.) for an idea I will look at some of my photo's , I will post it later.

As promised one Motor cycle and rider (my dad) this is a picture of him with the 17th AC bt/ Tank Corps in Ireland 1919, he looks a bit cleaner than your chap , looks like he is out for a sunday ride.

It is almost the same bike but they did have many makes in use, also it gives you ashot of the cap badge .

Superb photo (yours also Crimson!), thanks for posting.

I did wonder if the chap's cap badge could be RE? Not enough detail and too much 'flare' to be certain.

The bare trees suggests autumn - winter - v early spring time; I guess there's always the possibility this could be taken in one of the Belgian / French towns or cities liberated towards the end of the war? (Is there anything distinctive about the bike or uniform to suggest late war?)

My first thought was Northern Italy but that was because of the vaguely Byzantine church. Nothing to back that up.

Both great photos, thanks.

The wall and church styles say Belgium/France to me...

Someone must know!!!

PS. Think of anywhere in that area that was flattened in WW2... hence no-one recognising the building today?

Re the location I will stay with my thoughts on the motor cycle rider, not a clear picture of the cap badge in your photo but we must remember, it was taken nearly a 100 years ago, I still think Tank Corps when you compare it with my photo , I think the last 6 months of the war is about the time , so we should look at the battle locations of the 17th. armoured car battalion, they did cover a lot of ground in that period, all the locations are listed in various reports, so I will start looking.
