JGGB Posted 1 April , 2013 Share Posted 1 April , 2013 I am trying to trace this airman. All I have is as above and that he worked as as bank official in the Belfast Banking Company somewhere in Ireland. He survived the war. Thank you
W.J.Caughey Posted 1 April , 2013 Share Posted 1 April , 2013 JGGB, you maybe have seen this link, but there's a B Shannon mention on forum member Gavin Bamford great website,if you get intouch with him he might have something else on him. http://northernbankwarmemorials.blogspot.co.uk/p/bb-great-war-deceased.html Walter
JGGB Posted 2 April , 2013 Author Share Posted 2 April , 2013 Walter, JGGB & Gavin Bamford - same person. Thanks. I have this B Shannon on the Roll of Honour that I cannot trace either via the Irish Census or Medal Index. I was wondering if there is a RFC index anywhere? JGGB Posted 1 December , 2018 Author Share Posted 1 December , 2018 Hi, I am working further on this RFC man [Benjamin Shannon] but can't find his medal card. Forces War Record has him transferring from the Army into the RFC in 1917.
Mark1959 Posted 1 December , 2018 Share Posted 1 December , 2018 (edited) Think the FWR record is a red herring. The man identified by HarryBrook has a few records. Looking at his RAF record it says enlisted direct to RFC. 16/4/17. Age 37y 3m. Occupation Despatch Clerk. Also indicates service in France 28/6..to 11/2/19. Assume means 28/6/18. Says he married Emily in Kingstown in March 1912. There is a marriage of Emily Martha Wood to Benjamin Shannon registered in Rathdown 1Q 1912. The NOK address for Emily is in Glasgow.. That all overseas service after formation of RAF probably explains why no Army Medal Index Card. The RFC was technically an army Corps. still looking. Edit Just looked at details on your site so you can ignore most of above The RAF records actually shows his BW and VM were despatched 10/10/1921. Discharged to RAF Reserve 15/3/19.
