PetersGrandfathersearch Posted 30 March , 2013 Share Posted 30 March , 2013 Hi everyone. Wonder if anyone could point me in the right direction to find out more about my grandfather Albert Edward Crumpler. From his MIC I have worked out that he was in the Remounts section of the ASC ( Private ASC R311435). He was awarded the Victory and British medals RASC 101B214 page 21986. However there is no info at all about where he went and which corps etc. he was in. Is there anything I can research to put a bit more flesh on this record? Many thanks in advance for any help. Sandie Hayes Posted 30 March , 2013 Share Posted 30 March , 2013 I know very little about the Army Service Corps but, in the absence of Albert's service records, viewing the medal rolls at Kew might be your best bet (or getting someone to have a look for you). These pages may help you: http://www.1914-1918.net/grandad/medals.htm http://1914-1918.net/research/index.php/find-your-soldier/campaign-medal-records/ Good luck, Sandie
PetersGrandfathersearch Posted 31 March , 2013 Author Share Posted 31 March , 2013 Thanks for that Sandie. I have seen and got a copy of the MIC, but beyond the medals there's nothing to suggest where he went. Will look at the site you suggested. Admin spof Posted 31 March , 2013 Admin Share Posted 31 March , 2013 The Long, Long Trail has some info on hte Remounts Service http://www.1914-1918.net/ASC_Remounts.html and read the link at the bottom for details of what one man experienced. THe ASC is very hard to research as the medal rolls only say ASC or RASC, number and rank with no clue as to what part of the ASC he was in. As he didn't qualify for a Star, he would have gone abroad after 1.1.16. If you have any postcards, photos, letters etc it may be possible to narrow it down to one of several bases and then see if the war diary can help. That is not very likely as individual men usually weren't mentioned but there may be a roll of some sort.
PetersGrandfathersearch Posted 31 March , 2013 Author Share Posted 31 March , 2013 Thank you very much for the information - it all helps to build up a picture. I did read the info on the Remounts and the reminiscences which were very touching and poignant.
