roypaule Posted 29 March , 2013 Share Posted 29 March , 2013 Hi all, I'm also doing some reading on the SS Planudes. From what I read, she was sunk my a mine on 28 January 1917. But I also read that she was attacked by U43. If this is so, when was she attacked by U43? Thanks in advance Roy

Michael Lowrey Posted 29 March , 2013 Share Posted 29 March , 2013 Roy, You're making a common mistake. The U-boat believed involved is the minelaying submarine UC 43, not the larger torpedo-attack U 43. Planudes went missing after sailing from the Tyne 18 January 1917, for Trouville, coal, presumed mined and sunk in North Sea, 19/20 January, off Whitby (mine laid 11 January 1917 by UC 43). see also http://www.uboat.net...s_hit/4814.html Best wishes, Michael
