Nathalie,

The Museum link is to a really great Museum - and all thinks to Jean-Pierre Verney.

Thanks for adding to my knowledge.

Kindest Regards,

Tom Lang.

The WD of the 7th Argylls for the date July 13 to 20, 1918 (2 pages), are attached.
On July 16, the Diary shows that they were travelling by train and received orders to detrain at NOGENT and notes (last sentence):
"... One man severely injured by accident during journey - died two days later".
He is not mentioned on the 18th.

I assume that William Connor is that man.
Kindest Regards,
Tom.

Wow - thanks everyone...I'd forgotten I had posted this!

It just goes to show how some things just require that little bit of help

Kind regards

Glad to see that you are now awake Andrew...

But -

When I look again at the photos I posted from FMP, the statements of the Lieutenant and Corporal each refer to "H. Connor".

This may be my eyes playing with me, but we are supposed to be researching William Connor.

Anyone wish to chime in?

Kindest Regards,

Tom.

Same surname; Regiment and Battalion; service number, and date of death. As sure as I can be, I think that it's the same man.

Regards

Chris

Chris,

I'm very sure that it's the same man, but I wanted to note the first initial (before any eagle eye).

I wonder that maybe during his transfer from The Black Watch (Royal Highlanders) to the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, it might be a clerical error during his transfer.

His MIC and Service Record are available on ancestry (spit).

The MIC shows his Black Watch (Royal Highlanders) number as S/11864.

A Pension record card is on Fold3 showing that his mother Mary received the sum of £-/5/-.

His Soldier's Effects record shows that his outstanding pay of £4/18/9 and £3/2/2, and a War Gratuity of £12/10/- was paid to his mother.
