Maricourt Posted 26 January , 2013 Share Posted 26 January , 2013 Forum Pals may wish to access this site from the Bodleian Library, Oxford for downloads and much more: ww1centenary continuations and beginnings - http://ww1centenary....ox.ac.uk/dbooks Some excellent reads in the various theme sections that can be downloaded. JimSmithson Posted 26 January , 2013 Share Posted 26 January , 2013 Maricourt The link does not work, at least not for me. I think this is the link you meant as a root although the books part doesn't work on this either http://ww1centenary.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/ Jim
Maricourt Posted 27 January , 2013 Author Share Posted 27 January , 2013 Thanks Jim - I had trouble with both, although that is the given address, but Googling WW1 Centenary- continuations & beginnings should get us there! I hope you found it of interest. Maricourt

johntaylor Posted 6 March , 2013 Share Posted 6 March , 2013 There seem to be two projects here: the one referred to by Maricourt is at http://ww1centenary.oucs.ox.ac.uk/ and the one from Jim is at http://ww1centenary.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/ Not sure how they fit together, but they both look interesting! Thanks for sharing, John
JimSmithson Posted 6 March , 2013 Share Posted 6 March , 2013 The non-Bodleian one is the project sponsored by JISC (originally Joint Information Systems Committee) which is pioneering using digital technology for all kinds of educational and research work. It is the site that ran the #Arras Twitter experiment last year that many Forum memebers joined in with. They are slowly building quite a rangeof material provided by many folk, some of whom are on here (Paul Reed for example). They would welcome further contributions. The other is Bodeian led and has a lot of contact with the Europeana 1914-1918 project which has been talked about on the Forum already. Both area are worth keeping an eye on over the coming months and years as they develop and collect material. Jim
psturtivant Posted 7 March , 2013 Share Posted 7 March , 2013 Similar (geographically) but different: the Ashmolean site also hosts a selection of original audio recordings (*.mp3 format) of WW1 veterans talking about their experiences, made for the IWM back in the 60s/early 70s. Pretty sure they are part of the resource on which Max Arthur drew. The name of Capt Maberley Esler RAMC sticks in my mind: one of his recordings deals with his personal experience of attending at an execution by firing squad. In a second recording he gives his [unequivocal] opinion on the necessity of such measures. To find the recordings of him, look here: http://www.oucs.ox.a...SOSORT=author|f There are many other speakers, from a variety of Cap Badges, and across the ranks. A brilliant resource.
