2nd Lt Leo Aldrich

Slightly outside a strictly 'Great War' topic, can anyone identify the aircraft type in which 2nd Lt Leo Aldrich was killed on 14th November 1918?

He was transferring an aircraft from Filton to Yatesbury, so possibly a Bristol Fighter?

Hello quemerford,

I can tell you that 2Lt LE Aldrich died of his injuries following a crash landing at Yatesbury in Bristol Fighter C918 on that date. He had a passenger, 2Lt EJ McDougall, who was injured but survived. He was with 37 Training Depot Station.

I got this information off a Casualty Card at the RAF Museum, Hendon.

I hope this helps.

Regards,

Trevor

Trevor,

Many thanks - greatly appreciated. The crash was at New Leaze Farm, Chippenham. Sadly the farm doesn't exist today, but from contemporary reports it would seem to have been somewhere west of the town.

Duncan, not sure if this is the same but according to Chippenham 2020 who

owns the Freehold of New Leaze Farm (168 acres) on the East of the town close to Rawlings Green and Monkton Park.

Postcode SN15 3RB covers New Leaze Farm, Pewsham, Chippenham

How very interesting! Many thanks - all the while I was walking great aunt's dog just across the way from it.

Aldrich was flying the Brisfit back from collection at Filton.
