Morning,

Can anyone proved the War Diary please for

1/9th Royal Scots for Tuesday 23 October 1917.

I have a Walsall man killed by shellfire this date.

Many thanks,

Graeme

Diary is very sparse indeed for this date 22nd to 24th "The line was very quiet, shelling being confined to batteries in the rear of Wancourt. Patrols went out nightly but no enemy patrols were met, and no action took place, bayonet Lewis Gun being directed on enemy working parties detected by or patrols"

Casualties for week in trench Killed 3 OR , Wounded 4OR

In case it is of any interest, all Ewing's regimental history of the Royal Scots has to say about the 9th RS's activites after September is: "On the night of the 21st/22nd September the 9th Royal Scots were relieved and marched to Siege Camp......The whole division was now transfered to the south, where it took over, at the beginning of October, trenches in the Heninel-Wancourt sector." and then they don't get another mention until the 2nd December 1917.

Sorry to hijack the thread but does anyone happen to have the 9th Royal Scots war diary for the period 20 October to 20 November 1916 - the battalion was at Beaumont Hamel on the Somme.

All the best

Patrick
