Military Census Ireland 1922

The Irish Army census of November 12th 1922 is now on line at www.militaryarchives.ie

There were 48,176 in the army by March 1923 so there are quite a lot of names together with their next of kin.

It is only searchable by location at present but will be searchable by name in the next few months. There are bound to be a huge amount of ex-British army on the list and a good few men with next of kin addresses in England and Scotland with a Scottish unit in Portobello barracks with many Hamilton addresses. There are a considerable amount of men listed in hospital although the nature of the illnesses are not recoded and I found 1 soldier in Bandon Hospital listed as died.

The browser takes a bit of getting used to but is well wrth it once you get access.
