"Paralysis of the Insane" - is one of the later stages of syphilis. A nasty disease in those days

And we were going so well, so very very well until Terry pointed out his date of death. The limit is 31/08/1921. Silly of me lads and lassies, I apologise and will keep an eye on it in future.

Joseph John Dunne. Royal Engineers WR/318534. Sapper. WFA Card. Address on card 35 Francis St,  Had to resort to looking at every John Dunne and similar until I found one at correct address.

https://www.fold3.com/image/1/645021051 - no cause of discharge

There is a second card under John Dunn but adds nothing

SWB card shows 10/8/17 to 15/3/18. Sickness. That is under John Joseph Dunne. Age on discharge is 31. No overseas service according to SWB roll

Great stuff Mark and George!! It must have been very very difficult to find him with the various first names and two variations of Dunn/Dunne.

I appreciate you help immensely, thank you very very much indeed.

I'm working through the principle that A.E. is the premature son of Staff Sergeant Dyer posted at the military barracks in Kildare

Thomas Farrell

3/4853 Leinsters. Discharged 29/3/18. Reasons Nephritis due to war service and deafness aggravated. Card says deceased 19/8/21. Give the WFA a pat on the back.

https://www.fold3.com/image/1/645027767

In under 31/8/21 wire

This record shows him in the 2nd Leinsters in late 1917

Medal roll shows previously with 6th battalion

Fitzgibbon

This seems to be relevant. Norah being a younger sister and mother

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Kerry/Tralee_Urban__part_of_/Boherboy__part_of_/281767/

Seems to be also another  Norah or unless the transcribed records are wrong

Possible for Fitzgibbon 127239 RAF.

WFA cards give contradictory info. One says A/451996 died after discharge. Claimant mother N. Fitzgibbon. Shows correct DoD

https://www.fold3.com/image/1/645810393

The other has Bob's number with RAF crossed out and RASC stated. Same claimant but Norah. Died correct day Consumption. Died WS - whilst serving

https://www.fold3.com/image/1/645810553

See here that confirms RAF service. Mother Nora

https://search.findmypast.co.uk/record?id=gbm%2fair79%2f1141%2f00090&parentid=gbm%2fair79%2f17541

Shows previous service with RMF as 3/6089

All a little confusing

Looks circumstantially like it is him. It is noted on reverse of card that the award should be cancelled at the end of the quarter in which the man died. The note is dated 13/10/21. He was discharged for "mental deficiency". A claim from his widow was rejected on the grounds they had married since discharge

Mears:

Corisande's website describes the circumstances of his shooting in Killarney

https://www.cairogang.com/soldiers-killed/mears/mears.html

A newspaper report indicates a member of the hotel's staff, Hannah Carey, was also killed by a stray bullet in the incident

Still searching for Mayfield but absolutely no trace to date.
