I sent him to Terry and he says he can do nothing without his records. His records have not been digitized so we will have to pass on this one I think.

Morning Tom

Another sunny day in Suffolk!

I have found a will reference which I trust you can access-it doesn't actually tell us anything other than address and benefactor. Is it the right man?

Goodness me George you are on the ball this morning. Great finds indeed, thank you very much for all that. Is there any RNR record for him do you think please?

From a sunny Tipperary!

 Kind regards.

 Tom.

Sorry for delay Tom. I can find his death and birth, and Census returns on Ancestry but nothing else I'm afraid.

A real one for the naval experts I think

Would indicate he was civil servant rather than a navy man. Searching....

and I think this is the family in `1901

On the ball, thank you Mark. It is only the death cert that says he was in the R.N.R.

This sailor should qualify if he was on the H.M.S. Eden, but the DC says SS Eden, so he may be Mercantile Marine. Can you help please?

Both could be true HMS Eden was a destroyer 1903

World War I

In early 1914 when displaced by G-class destroyers she joined the 9th Destroyer Flotilla based at Chatham tendered to HMS St George. The 9th Flotilla was a patrol flotilla tasked with anti-submarine and counter mining patrols in the Firth of Forth area. By September 1914, she was deployed to the Dover Patrol based at Portsmouth. Here she provided anti-submarine, counter mining patrols and defended the Dover Barrage (Wikipedia)

SS Eden was a cargo ship sunk by Worthing pier.

Built in 1897 as a steamship 1.446 tons. Dimensions: 246x34.2x17.2 feet. Powered by a compound inverted engine. Single screw. Has one deck with a raised quarter deck 97 feet aft. Forecastle 32 feet and four bulkheads. On route from Tyne to Rouen carrying coal. Torpedoed by a German submarine 10 miles off Worthing. Thank you Dave, its a difficult one all right. If we could find his record it would certainly help, but he is not in FMP.

Kind regards.
