Thank you Barry. He is not on the list but one of the links I posed was created by his ancestor here-

http://www.submarinesailor.com/bbs2/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=15171&mid=72127

I emailed the certs to the U.S. Navy and await their reply.

Thanks you for trying, Barry, you are a gent, I appreciate it very much.

Y'know this might be important. Is there some sort of U.S. unit that constantly searches for missing bodies of service personnel? Maybe dropping them an email might be just the thing.

That looks good to be Barry, thank you for that!

I may be taking the rest of the night off, with a bottle of apple and rhubard wine. My cheeks are beginning to glow already....

Hi Tom

This has me puzzled. Rex S Wheeler (Rex Smalley Wheeler b.1893.) is on the list posted above and he checks out  on the USA censuses BUT he is not listed on the American Cemetery site as I have posted  ie. George Franklin Wheeler is shown as having died when the Rochester was torpedoed. SO ....has somebody made a big mistake somewhere?

Time to think !!!! Trees on Ancestry. BOTH SHOW LOST AT SEA WHEN THE ROCHESTER WAS TORPEDOED!

'Morning all.

Craig, thank you for the link, when I click the Contact us form, it times out, but I will stay at it. It will be well worth it. I sent an email to https://www.worldwar1centennial.org/ and await a reply.

Barry, great finds, and thank you for sticking with this. It is quite possible these sailors are still buried here,. but I have no evidence for this. The only way to nail it down, if they cannot be found returned home, and that is to visit the place. I did contact Belmullet Historical Society and they say after these Covid19 restrictions they will go and have a look.

I think we will move on as we are getting bogged down in this.

Kindest regards.

Tom.

Morning Tom-hope the wine went down well!

Are there any military burials at Rossport? Which is what the final word says? 'Caused to be buried. Rossport'?

Mornign George, the wine was food stuff, and easy to make. Anyhoo that is the question? As far as I know there is an old Protestant Church with graves in Rossport. I have a buddy who is a Vicar and I will send him an email, he should know the relevant Vicar.

Fingers crossed.

Well there it is George, plain as day, we are chasing our tails. Fantastic work George! They were brought back. May I say that was a marvellous bit of sleuthing, well done indeed and thank you very much indeed.

 Kind regards.

 Tom.

I reckon his name was Wintle.

Hi Tom, George and all,

His name was WINDLE, Sgt RIC, Royal Irish Constabulary, took his pension from 18th January 1921, £187.4s., emigrated to USA.

Still can't get my head round the two Wheeler's when there were 16 men listed as killed/missing in alphabetical order!
