Guest redrum Posted 23 August , 2004 Share Posted 23 August , 2004 A good over view of the war as experienced in Britain. Personal reminisces recorded by the authors and personally from the few survivors(one lady now 107). Stories of the Zeppelin raids, fathers and brothers who never returned from the war fronts, rationing and starvation, factory workers and strikes, anti- German riots etc. Well worth reading for its important historical & social content. burlington Posted 23 August , 2004 Share Posted 23 August , 2004 Very good book. My copy was signed by Richard Van Hemden last May on Avril's kitchen table no less!
Guest Pete Wood Posted 23 August , 2004 Share Posted 23 August , 2004 I am NOT being pedantic, honest, but the author is Richard van Emden. I only write this in case someone is trying to order the book. I have a copy, and I enjoyed it. This is the same author/journalist that brought us the story of the under-aged soldiers on television recently.
