Guest Julianhomer Posted 7 January , 2014 Share Posted 7 January , 2014 Hello there, This is my first post and I hope I am doing this in the correct manner. I am looking for information about my great grandfather Hugh Flint (1881-1918) served with 11th Battalion of the Lancashire Fusiliers and I would very much like to know more. He was missing in action and is recorded as dying in Belgium on 20th April 1918. However from what I can gather, on that day the 11th were in Beulleul in France so it doesn't quite make sense. Apologies for any naivety in my search as I am new to this. Regards Julian Homer
Blackblue Posted 7 January , 2014 Author Share Posted 7 January , 2014 Hi Julian, Post your own topic under Soldiers forum (easier for people to find). Will reply there. The 11th was decimated during the German attacks of March and April 1918. On 20th April what was left of the 11th were in close support at St.Jans Cappel (France) on the French/Belgian border and part of a composite Battalion with the 9th Loyal North Lancs and 74th Trench Mortar Battery. If you look at the War Diary Dave has posted on the previous page it details that BHQ was hit by a German shell causing casualties including 2 ORs killed. How do you know he was missing? Guest Posted 16 September , 2014 Share Posted 16 September , 2014 This topic is excellent. I joined today, after finding out yesterday that one of my descendants was killed on the 27th April 1918. I have now found burial details and have looked at maps of area. He was with 11 Batt Lancashire Fusiliers and was at Reningelst on 26 April, under French command. I wondered if there was extracts from the diaries to cover the 20th April ( last page ) to when he died on the 27th. Thanks for your time. oxlade134 Posted 7 July , 2016 Share Posted 7 July , 2016 Very late to this thread but wondered about 16 men of the 11 LF killed on 31 July 1917 . The History of the Fusiliers just says they were in reserve at battle of Pilcken. Does the Diary say where and how 16 men were killed?
