Divisional or Area Employment Companies were units of the Labour Corps, so it is likely that your man was transferred fron the Royal Irish Rifles as a result of a medical downgrading, possibly after being wounded.

These companies were responsible for "housekeeping" duties in the areas of divisions, Corps or Armies. This might include responsibility for running baths, laundries, and recreational facilities such as cinemas. For those divisions which had a concert party, they were also usually part of such a unit.
