........but then a MIC showing 42139 Manchesters only shows a first unit on overseas posting as ASC T4/064411 and no ref to Notts and Derbys 13100,this says not with them in the war. Maybe a regular before,or one of the numbers used more than once ? My man on MIC is shown as Robert M Free

It appears he had home service only with them - 12431 N & D enlisted 15 Aug 1914 and 13544 N & D on 26 Aug 1914.

I will have to check later but -

13094, 13096, 13102,13103 and many others close by were 9th Bn men.

Possibly wounded on Gallipoli and then re-badged.

Looks like that block of numbers issued to 9th Bn men.

Probable enlistment 24/8/1914

Possibly wounded on Gallipoli and then re-badged.

The MIC shows that he went to France as ASC so had transferred from the Notts before going overseas - presumably he had some sort of skill with horses as he was a T4 prefix (apparently horse transport, 4th New Army).

We had a few men re-badged prior to July 1915 for various reasons. He is not on my list of men 'chucked' out, therefore obviously for other reason!

He married Charlotte Smith in April quarter of 1917 in Nottingham so he was home sometime during that period.
