Hywyn Posted 17 October , 2012 Share Posted 17 October , 2012 The Great War Forum today remembers Samuel Gam of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers who died 17th October 1915. Samuel, from 16 Flamborough Rd, Stepney, was aged 26 when he enlisted in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers as Pte 27288 in April 1915. After training he was posted to the 10th Battalion and went with them to France, landing there on 27th September 1915. By 12th October the Battalion was taking it's place in the line in the Ypres Salient under instructions of the 2nd Bn Royal Scots. On the 15th the battalion took over a portion of the Hooge trenches in their own. Two days later Samuel was killed. The war diary notes that Samuel was killed and Pte 16205 Joseph Parry from Mold/Buckley was wounded. It further states that Joseph died later of these wounds and that he had received them when a shrapnel shell burst in the front bay of his section. Samuel Gam. Remembered by the Great War Forum.
