Chris_Baker Posted 17 October , 2012 Share Posted 17 October , 2012 Ten years ago today, I installed Invision software to replace a previous generation of technology. The new Great War Forum was born. And isn't it doing well?

Dragon Posted 17 October , 2012 Share Posted 17 October , 2012 Just having a look at the members who re-joined on the first day (as I did), there's still a fair number of familiar names. It's interesting to reflect how our interests may have changed over that time; I joined to acquire information for something I was writing, then was intrigued and engaged by a project to e-save forgotten old buildings (drill halls) (which is still ongoing) and have since found the confidence to share my enthusiasm for an overlooked area of the Western front. Good job Chris had the vision and the skills to make it all happen, otherwise thousands of projects would probably still be mouldering away in people's back bedrooms. Terence Munson Posted 17 October , 2012 Share Posted 17 October , 2012 Congradulations and Happy 10th Birthday to the new Great War Forum. Many thanks to Chris and Mods past and present. Long may it continue. For me personally it has been an inspiration after meeting forum member Martin (Burlington), at Avril Williams B&B, when on one of my early cycling trips to the Western Front. He recommended I should join back in 2005. Thanks Martin. Terry
Rockdoc Posted 18 October , 2012 Share Posted 18 October , 2012 I can only echo the sentiments already expressed. The GWF has been of immense assistance to me, allowed me to make some good friends and broadened my interests from the purely genealogical to a wider context. Happy Birthday, GWF! MBrockway Posted 18 October , 2012 Share Posted 18 October , 2012 Certainly life-changing for me as I doubt I'd have had the tenacity to develop the interest without this excellent resource! A big thank you to Mr Baker and to the army of mods past and present who keep things ticking. Cheers, Mark

Pighills Posted 18 October , 2012 Share Posted 18 October , 2012 Late to the party, as usual! I know this forum will continue going from strength to strength throughout the coming years. It may be a petulant youngster at times, acting up and cuasing us stress, but when it comes to imparting it's knowledge and being tested, it aces it every time. Well done everyone and Happy Birthday

Dragon Posted 18 October , 2012 Share Posted 18 October , 2012 If you mouse-hover over or click on the person's name where it's a hyperlink (such as in the blue panel above your post, or in Overview in their profile), then look in the toolbar at the bottom of your screen where the page URLs are shown, you can see the forum URL ending in ... index.php?showuser= and then your number. Mine is number 16. Or, if patient, you can count down in the Joined date view of the list of members. Gwyn
