Pte Small (SWB 256774) was discharged with Bronchitis (gas) in 1919. I understand he visited Chagford as part of his recovery after the war.

I'm struggling to find much information about this hospital/sanatorium on line - can any one help please - thanks

There's an article, 'Dartmoor Sanatorium, Chagford, Devon' in the British Journal of Tuberculosis, vol. 11 issue 4 (Oct 1917), pp. 172-174 p - you should be able to get a photocopy from your local public library's inter-library loan scheme for a small fee.

It's referenced in an index of sanatoria to a book by Isaac Burney Yeo called The therapeutics of mineral springs and climates (London, 1904) so had been in existence some while.

Not sure which of the Devon record offices Chagford falls under but one of them may be able to help: http://www.ancestor-search.info/CRO-Devon.htm

This paper is available online:http://www.ebooksrea...mates-hci.shtml

The closure of the hospital gets a mention in the London Gazette:http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/28798/pages/941/page.pdf
