POW J Dixon (Leeds) & others in photo at Minden

Recommended Posts

This is a postcard from my grandfather's (Leonard Sutcliffe) collection that we assume came from one of the Minden prisoners of war he was with from 1917-1918.

The card is addressed to Mr Mark Dixon and a pencilled not refers to J Dixon, with a different address in New Wortley, Leeds.

Maybe someone will know of him or recognise others in this group photo? It looks like a mixed nationality group.

On a technical note

Is there a way I could be 'tagging' or linking any of this information to make it work better on the Forum? Any advice gratefully received as it's worth making everything work as well as it can.

The 1911 Census list the following at 17 Tong Road, Lower Wortley, Leeds:

Mark Dixon, age 51, butcher, born at Lower Wortley, Leeds

Polly Dixon, age 50, born at York Street, Leeds

James Dixon, age 26, assisting father in business, born at 17 Tong Road, Leeds

Albert Dixon, age 19, printer, born at 17 Tong Road, Leeds

Unfortunately Leeds City Council have removed their Absent Voters list page, so he can't be matched to a Regiment or Corps.

Steve.

Wow! That is amazing. You have been busy on my questions this morning!

Looking at the group photo I think he is third from the right in the back row, isn't he? It's great to locate his identity - and to have another image of him in obviously less stressful times.
