b3rn Posted 7 October , 2012 Share Posted 7 October , 2012 The National Archives (UK) used to have lists online of abbreviations for units and ranks. These now show a default error page and the NA's robots.txt precludes Google or the Wayback Machine from giving us a look at the page as it used to be. Is there a good online resource for abbreviations found in British service records and unit diaries? [The Australians are still there - AWM and NAA.] Mate asks "Still can't find meaning of OMW or HMW both seem to be a unit type. Tommy was a Gunner." kevinrowlinson Posted 7 October , 2012 Share Posted 7 October , 2012 "Tommy was a Gunner." What nationality and what branch? Is it possible to post part of the original doc. so it may be viewed in context? Kevin

Stebie9173 Posted 7 October , 2012 Share Posted 7 October , 2012 OMW could be Ordnance Mobile Workshop? Steve.
squirrel Posted 7 October , 2012 Share Posted 7 October , 2012 Found this from Graham Stewart, August 2005, in a post responding to a similar query: "Ordnance Mobile Workshops were Heavy, Medium and Light" so Steve is correct and they were further identified as HMW, MMW and LMW.
