Hugh Pattenden Posted 29 September , 2012 Share Posted 29 September , 2012 Hello, Was wondering if anyone could help me regarding Captain William George Thompson, 41 Squadron, RFC, who was reported MIA on 14th July 1917. I have a few bits of material relating to him, but would really value imput from members here. Many thanks, Hugh.

Dolphin Posted 29 September , 2012 Share Posted 29 September , 2012 Capt William George Thompson of No 41 Sqn RFC (formerly 5th Bn, Suffolk Regt) was from Cambridge, and was 28 when he was killed in action flying FE8 A4885. Vfw Georg Oefele of Jasta 12 was credited with an FE north of Boursies at 16:50; it was his first, and only, victory before being killed in action on 22 July 1917. Capt Thompson is buried at Lebucquiere, France. Gareth
Hugh Pattenden Posted 30 September , 2012 Author Share Posted 30 September , 2012 Thanks for this. Anyone know if there are any photographs knocking around of pilots from 41 Squadron? Hugh.
mickdavis Posted 30 September , 2012 Share Posted 30 September , 2012 Thanks for this. Anyone know if there are any photographs knocking around of pilots from 41 Squadron? Hugh. Maybe not pilots (I'll need to check) but our CCI Archive has some great air-to-airs of 2Lt S Hay flying his FE8 - look at the burning oil.
