THOREMANS born 23/08/1892 died 11/09/1918 Has anyone got any ideas as to why he would have ended up in England?

spconnolly007 Posted 29 September , 2012 Share Posted 29 September , 2012 As seany has mentioned, most likely transferred back to England on a hospital ship due to injury (possibly disease). Quite common to see Belgium headstones in British military cemeteries, Netley in Hampshire being one that Ive visited, and no doubt plenty at Brookwood. I would imagine that as you are close to Liverpool, there must of been a military hospital in the area? Raises a question though, how do you go about finding details for these men? healdav Posted 29 September , 2012 Share Posted 29 September , 2012 Patrick deWolf at ABL1914@pandora.be has an inventory of all Belgian war dead and is trying to check it. He would love to have these details. He was in the Karabinier Wielrijders and is in the Belgian inventory as being buried in Macclesfield.

bruce Posted 30 September , 2012 Share Posted 30 September , 2012 The Headstones in Chelmsford etc are the same as those in Longuenesse, and in Belgium. So why is this lonely Belgian grave in a completely different form of headstone? Bruce
