pdtiffin Posted 25 September , 2012 Share Posted 25 September , 2012 Hello I have been researching some early MMs to the Northumberland Fusiliers. The first one is Pte Thomas Bell, 4/941. He enter France and Flanders on 20th April 1915 and awarded the MM in 1916 (LG 9/12/1916). The date of the Gazette suggests a Somme award, probably for the Battle of Flers-Courcelette. The DNW auction archive indicates that he was awarded a presentation watch inscribed "Presented to Lance-Corpl. Thomas Bell, N.F., by public subscription on being awarded the military medal, Somme, Sept. 15th 1916" Best regards Peter
