corisande Posted 24 September , 2012 Share Posted 24 September , 2012 I can follow this from birth 1898 through 1901 and 1911 censuses 1919 Feb 5. The undermentioned Overseas Cadets are granted temp, commissions as 2nd Lts. 183983 C. V. Brain. He ends the War in RAF as an officer. Posted to O Coy 1922 Jan 17 Discharged at demobilisation of ADRIC 1922 Mar 17. Leaves UK for Durban, South Africa. He is a "forester" and travels with his wife Mrs E Brain. UK address 101 Uplands Rd, Hornsey. Intends living in South Africa. He probably died in Australia in 1953. I cannot find his MIC . My limited notes are here click It looks as if he served in East Africa, but I did not think there was a campaign medal (my ignorance maybe?) Can anyone find him serving in East Africa. The only thing going for it is that he has an usual name (but seems to have used Victor rather than Charles in early life)
bushfighter Posted 28 September , 2012 Share Posted 28 September , 2012 No, there was no specific German East Africa medal. In that part of the world African General Service Medals were issued for: Nyasaland 1915 Shimber Berris (Somaliland) 1914 East Africa 1913-14 Jubaland (then British East Africa) 1917-18 East Africa (Turkanaland - three different awards) 1914, 1915 and 1918. Perhaps the ADRIC registration claim mis-wrote a word or two. Harry
corisande Posted 28 September , 2012 Author Share Posted 28 September , 2012 Thanks. The ADRIC registers are difficult to read, to a certain extent one transcribes what you think you see thare, and the register records what the man taking the details thinks he heard!
