dannyboy Posted 23 September , 2012 Share Posted 23 September , 2012 I'm currently researching another of my great-grandfathers & his WW1 service. Unfortunately we have no surviving family records or medals. My grandfather remembers being told he saw active service overseas in France & the Army of Occupation in Germany. He is believed to have served with the Royal Engineers & RFC George Turner Born 19/06/1891 Born & lived in Sheffield Occupation pre-war Engineer in Iron Works I've looked at RFC service records on National Archives and there are 19 George Turners. Ancestry searches also show several with the RE. Could anyone please suggest on how I could narrow these down or other sources that I could research in order to try & locate his service number & unit? Many thanks & any assistance would be much appreciated.
tipperary Posted 24 September , 2012 Share Posted 24 September , 2012 Hi if an address was known you may be able to check the absent voters list which MIGHT give you a unit or number for him, john
