stu Posted 20 September , 2012 Share Posted 20 September , 2012 Can anyone please help me. A distant relative of mine, Reginald George Bierner Fry, served as a Lt in the Tank Corps, he was commissioned into the W.Yorks on the 9/9/15, this I have from his MIC. I do know that he survived the war, but unfortunately this is all I really know, I will be very grateful if anyone can give me any info regarding his service. Many thanks. charlesmessenger Posted 20 September , 2012 Share Posted 20 September , 2012 Stuart I would recommend that you visit the National Archives at Kew, since there is likely to be his army personal file held there. If you look at their website and call up WO 338 in the Catalogue you can look in the relevant piece number and call up the register of personal files. he should be listed here with a 'long number'. Then go to Kew and look at the hard copies of the catalogues of WO 39 and WO 374 - his file will be held under one of these - and use his long number to identify the piece reference relating to his personal file and which will enable you to call it up and look at it. The file should give sopmething on the units he served with and you canlook at the war diaries of these, which are under WO 95. Charles M

stu Posted 21 September , 2012 Author Share Posted 21 September , 2012 Charles and Grant, Many thanks for your advice. Before I can get to Kew, I'm hoping someone on here might know which battalion Tank Corps he served in, do any of our resident tank experts know of this man ? Many thanks.
