post-92325-0-27402200-1347150111_thumb.jHi Folks.

Does anyone have any details regarding issue of splatter masks without chain mail? I've included a photo of the one in my collection, brought back from the 14-18 front by my grandfather (as well as an example with mail). My grandfather served with the Service Corps and was often detailed to recover broken-down and wrecked tanks as part of his duties, hence these masks thankfully came into my possession. Any info would be really appreciated. Thank you.

Very interesting - i've never seen one like that before. As there's no lower face protection or particularly good eye protection like on the mail version, could it be for another purpose ie protecting from sparks when gas axing or welding? Complete stab in the dark

Dutch machine gunners wore them. That's the only time I've seen them.
