Tim Birch Posted 18 August , 2004 Share Posted 18 August , 2004 I am re-reading General Jack's Diary. I recommend it to anyone who hasn't read it. He has a dry sense of humour. In particular I liked the description of how an inquest was held into high casualties sustained in an unsuccessful trench raid. Everything is considered including numbers taking part, element of surprise, experience of officers and NCO's, equipment etc etc. Jack's comment is that he believed the Germans were the main culprits! Max Posted 18 August , 2004 Share Posted 18 August , 2004 Like Tim I think that this book is definitely worth a read. I did find that Jack was a bit of an emotional wet fish, but he always seemed to have the well being of his men at the forefront of his mind.
