paddym Posted 18 July , 2012 Share Posted 18 July , 2012 Can anyone here point me to a full and definitive history of the Guards Memorial in London? I've picked up a few snippets through Google: who the architect/sculptor were, memorial text by Kipling, unveiled by Duke of Connaught in 1926 (with Kipling present), damaged in WW2 etc etc, but what I am really after is a timetable: when it was first proposed and by whom, who funded it, the building schedule etc, all the gory details. I think it might be tied in with my group photo investigations in these Forums at http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=176466&pid=1775474&st=25entry1775474: they may be the "sponsoring partners" or something similar. Note: it commemorates among others the Irish Guards, with which Kipling's son serves, and the Battle of Loos, where he was killed.
