Remembered Today:

6th (Service) Bn Royal Irish Regt & The Royal Guernsey Militia

While trawling the Army List for May 1915 whilst doing some other research, I noticed that the 6th (Service) Bn The Royal Irish Regt had a considerable number of Officers from the Royal Guernsey Militia - does anyone know the background to this? It looks as if Officers from the Royal Guernsey Militia were used as the nucleus of the 6th Bn Royal Irish Regiment.....stop press. I see in Brig James' "British Regiments 1914-1918" they were joined by one Coy (7 Officers and 238 ORs) from the Royal Guernsey Militia in March 1915... does anyone know what triggered this?

Maj G W Page........................Capt and Non Maj 2nd Bn Royal Guernsey Militia

Maj C E Lloyd.........................Maj and Hon Lt Col 2nd Bn Royal Guernsey Militia

Capt J H Luscombe................Capt 1st Bn Royal Guernsey Militia

Capt T Hutchesson................Capt 2nd Bn Royal Guernsey Militia

Lt H A Le Bas..........................Lt 1st Bn Royal Guernsey Militia

Lt J G McIlwraith.....................Lt 2nd Bn Royal Guernsey Militia

2nd Lt J H Fallas....................2nd Lt 1st Bn Royal Guernsey Militia

Also a company of the Royal Jersey Militia (6 officers, 225 other ranks) joined the 7th Royal Irish Rifles in March 1915. I don't know if this was because of a historical connection to the regiment or just being sent where they were needed ?
