wulsten Posted 19 May , 2012 Author Share Posted 19 May , 2012 Dave, thanks for the info from the war diary, Geoff Here's the War Diary entry for 24-25/12/1917. It's no wonder he joined the RAF. Regards Dave Battalion War Diary 24/012/1917 At 3 am the enemy sent over gas shells both lachrymatory and phosgene (and it is thought mustard) into the support line, around Battalion HQ. and the back areas. 1 Officer and 3 other ranks got a slight dose and were sent to hospital. the remainder of the day was comparatively quiet except for the usual shelling of village and communications. inter company relief was carried out in the evening and was completed the same night. the Battalion side slipped to the right and extended its frontage taken over from the 7th Bn Loyal North Lancs. 25/12/1917 the Battalion celebrated its third XMAS Day in the Front lline trenches. Except for the intermittent shelling in the early morning everything else was very quiet. a deserter belonging to thev107th Inf Reserve Regt was captured and would not give any information concerning the tactical disposition of his Battalion
