Having searched through a few of your threads I came across your map.

I am getting the feeling that IR171 were the directly opposing unit.

Along with IR136 they were part of the 115th Division.

So on your map at Gesnes Circled 32

I am still trying to get hold of an affordable copy History for IR171.

Martin, have you tried Patrick to see if he has a digital copy available for IR171? Also, Michelin illustrated battlefield guide for Argonne-Metz-Verdun might give some information. A lot of those old Michelin books are free to download on archives.org site.

Greetings Seaforths.

I have tried Patrick to see if he has the history for 171 but he does not. He has told me that he is trying to get hold of it and he expects to be firing up his scanner in the none too distant future.

He does have the history for IR136 - the companion regiment and has sent me a couple of scans for incidents in June 1918.

Over the last couple of days I have been re-reading Justin's threads about his relative Max Polak ( 127th American Infantry regiment ) who was killed 5th October 1918 apparently flushing the 115th German Division out of the woods at Gesnes.

I have picked up a number of excellent maps off his threads and some interesting accounts from diaries he has attached

UPDATE -

As it happens it looks like AOK4 has the history of IR171 that I am looking for.
