Marilyne Posted 2 April , 2012 Share Posted 2 April , 2012 Dear all, As ambassador for this event, I'd like to point to you a very good way and opportunity to walk the battlefields of Flanders Fields, learn something about the Great War and do something that's good for your health!! Between the 22nd and 25th August, the Belgian Army organizes a four day march in Flanders Fields called "Vierdaagse of the Yzer": Four Days of the Yzer. It focuses around the cities of Nieuwpoort, Poperinge, Dixmuide and on the last day Ypres with a parade starting at Menin Gate though Main Street. Every day, you can walk 32, 24, 16 or 8 kilometres, there are activities for the children and you have all the time in the world to do the march and visit the monuments and cemeteries you pass on the way, and eventually watch the ceremonies held each day. Sleeping and lodging is provided in various camps set up in the cities, in tents or in your mobile home or in sporthalls. Or you can stay by yourself in a hotel and join the starting areas. For information and subscription, visit: www.vierdaagse.be you don't have to do all four days. If you are in Flanders Fields during this period, feel free to join for a day!! Watch out for my avatar: the Belgian Walking Bear will be there!! Regards, Marilyne.
