on a medal index roll,what does it mean when it says discharged T of E.

Andy, the usual phrasing is T E or T/E or something like that. It means "Time Expired". Usually applies to a soldier of the Territorial Force, whsoe 'employment contract' had expired.

T of E : "Terms of Engagement",which in effect is as Chris said Time Expired,He'd done his time & didnt fancy a further stint,an enigma for those serving for the duration!

I think the actual phrase is 'Termination of Engagement'.
