Hello,

. According to the records of Commonwealth War Graves Commission, Manor Road Cemetery, Zillebeke (not far from the Lake and also not far from Hill 60) was also known as Manor Farm Cemetery. The cemetery was located at the railway halt 800 metres South-west of Zillebeke. The trench map reference for the cemetery was 28.I.22.c.7.3. See added map. This is just by the Farm where we live in.

After war the soldiers were brought over to another Cemetery. In fact there were 17 graves and they were after the war concentrated in to Perth Cemetery (China Wall).

Details of the 17 graves from Manor Road Cemetery that were later reburied in Perth Cemetery (China Wall) here under:

A lot of soldiers (10 of the 17 casualties) were buried of C Bty,106 th Bde,Royal Field Artillery. Somebody knows what might happened and why and how so much soldiers died about the same date? Most probably this soldiers died not far trom Manor Farm? Please see the added list, perhaps somebody knows more what could have happened.

Regards, Marc

is this it: 25th July 1917: 'Welch had terrible bad luck last night. A shell burst in his sergeants mess and out of six sergeants it killed three and wounded the other three. C Battery has now lost no less than 14 sergeants out of its establishment of 7, all in the last six weeks..' map and text in .Master of Belhaven; diaries of Lt Col Hamilton - 106th Bde. C Bty was just SW of Manor Farm - across railway line.. under the north sign of your map on N side of T junction of roads..as Hamilton calls it 'Blaupoort'

Hello,

Indeed completely right as to see in the list there were 3 sergeants involved..The people most fell the 24th but perhaps there was a small miss of date.

Which kind of guns the 106th Bde wore shooting with (4,5" or 6" or other?).

Normally the sergeants mess was a little further then the guns. Could it have been at Manor Farm itself? Just because the victims were buried so nearby Manor Farm?

Are thediaries of LtCol Hamilton somewhere to read on line?

Still 28/07 two soldiers died, perhaps being injured during the shelling on24/07

Blaupoort Farm was indeed still a bit more West (about 700 metres) of our Farm.

Again already thanks for the info.

Regards, Marc

Belhavens diary is a large book - easily found second hand for not many pounds. The War Diary of the Master of Belhaven. Try Abe Books - though the link at the top of this Forum page... It will answer most of your questions I am sure... 450 pages, much/most of it relating to 108th and then 106th Bde RFA.

Hello,

Somebody can give me copy of some pages of Belhavens diary, the War Diary of the Master of Belhaven. Perhaps there is indeed still more info to find around the troops nearby our Manor Farm.

This concerning the pages around 25th July 1917concerning 106th Bde RFA. Overhere it is not so easy to look in that book, thanks.
