marina Posted 4 August , 2004 Share Posted 4 August , 2004 The old gentlemen were wonderful. I got quite a catch in my throat when they showed the picture of Mr. Lloyd as a young man - so handsome and openfaced. Bless them all, Marina

Guest AmericanDoughboy Posted 7 August , 2004 Share Posted 7 August , 2004 VivP, Thank you for sharing that report. It is quite astonishing that there are only 23 British WWI veterans remaining... -Doughboy
Neil Mackenzie Posted 8 August , 2004 Share Posted 8 August , 2004 Sorry to hijack the thread slightly but how long have they been doing this at the Cenotaph on 4th August? I don't remember hearing about it before but probably just because I wasn't looking out for it. Thanks. Neil
salientpoints Posted 8 August , 2004 Share Posted 8 August , 2004 They havent. Previous events with vets have been centered around things likes trips to Kew or Buck House Garden Party so not necessarily ww1 date sensitive. This was arranged by Dennis Goodwin of the First World War Veterans Ass. as the last possible time anyone will be witness to such an anniverary with veterans present. Dennis has been taking vets around the country to events and indeed overseas to the Salient, Somme etc revisiting villages once the scene of battles or where soldiers were on R&R. He has been doing this for about 20 years. It is possible something was done in 1994 but I am not 100%. Ryan
