Dominion-of-the-North Posted 24 February , 2012 Share Posted 24 February , 2012 Colleagues: I'm trying to learn more about what the 7th (Rand) Intelligence Corps did during the campaign in German S/W Africa, 1914-15. As I understand it, they likely fulfilled the role of scouts, which (if correct) is a bit easier for me to conceptualise. Nevertheless, can any one give me any suggestions regarding potential sources outlining their movements, operations and/or actions during that Campaign? One of the problems I am facing is that (to my understanding) there were three columns which advanced into German S/W Africa during this campaign, and, (since I don’t have an Order of Battle), I don’t know to which column they were attached. Are there any OrBats available for this campaign? (That would at least be a start.) Grateful, as always, for any thoughts. Heliographen-Abteilung Posted 28 February , 2012 Share Posted 28 February , 2012 Glen Try here too: http://www.kaiserscross.com/40117/40726.html. They were assigned to HQs Brigade. The Intel Corps did act as mounted scouts and often were the first skirmishers to come into action. Dominion-of-the-North Posted 26 April , 2012 Author Share Posted 26 April , 2012 Glen Try here too: http://www.kaiserscross.com/40117/40726.html. They were assigned to HQs Brigade. I suppose I am slowly coming to the realisation that one can't get blood from a stone -- ie., if the information has never been recorded, then it can't be found. <sigh> That said, hope springs eternal. For example, maybe, some day, if the leading South African newspapers of the time are digitized, one might be able to find the odd reference to the unit, and then deduce some of its operations and/or movements in the Campaign. At this point I would be over the moon simply to discover which of the three columns the 7th (Rand) Intelligence Corps belonged! If anyone happens to stumble across any information on this unit at any point in the future, I would be most grateful for a "heads-up". Thanks again to all.
