Yorts Posted 30 March , 2003 Share Posted 30 March , 2003 Hi, CH/13931 Sergeant Harry Hayes Royal Marine Light Infantry was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal in the London Gazette of 11/12/18. The citation reads: 'The following awards have been approved for services on the Mediterranean Station between the 1st January and the 30th June 1918'. At the time of his award in 1918 he was serving aboard the Cruiser HMS Theseus in the Aegean. I know at some stage in 1918 HMS Theseus became a depot ship (a depot ship for what? MTBs? Submarines?) but I can find no further details of the award. Beyond the details listed in Jane's can anyone provide more details of HMS Theseus' activities? Can anyone provide the original recommendation? Could it be that the award was related to the raid by SMS Goeben and Breslau? Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
