Remembered Today:

MIC Reference?

Would anyone have an explanation for the reference found on my Great Uncle's MIC (attached).

In one of the lines below the references for the Victory, British and 1914 Star Medals, another reference can be found. It is difficult to determine the first two letters of the reference, but I wonder whether it could be 'cl', for clasp.

Is it simply a reference, or could it have an easily decipherable meaning?

Not having looked at any other MIC's I'm really not sure what to expect.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hugh

As he died {death accepted October 1914} I would suggest this is the Reference to his entitlement to the Aug/Nov Clasp to the 1914 Star.

Interesting. Usually references to the Clasp are written as 'Clasp and Rose...' Needs a bit more investigation.

What was the qualifying criteria for entitlement to the Clasp and Rose?

As he was killed/missing presumed dead, before November 22nd 1914 he met one of them!,Basically {& there are many threads on this already including one posted yesterday}To be eligible for the Clasp{The Rose was just the Emblem worn on the 1914 Star Ribbon Bar to denote the Clasp in Undress Uniform}One had to be within range of the Enemys Mobile Artillery &/or Come under fire,be Taken Prisoner or KiA/DoW,between the 5th August & 22nd November 1914,whilst serving on land{ie with the Land Forces}in France & Flanders {Only}A List of units & the full criteria are published in British Battles & Medals{Various Editions either by Major L.L.Gordon,or the more modern Editions by E.C.Joslin,{published by Spinks,1950s~90s}& The Mons Star by David Ascoli,{1980s}
