Remembered Today:

'Lions Led by Donkeys' Robin Bailey

Hello,

I seem to remember a programme made by ITV sometime in the 1970s or early 1980s called "Lions led by Donkeys' narrated by the actor Robin Bailey.

I think the focus of the programme was the Accrington Pals.

Does anyone have a copy of this programme by any chance?

I am fairly certain it exists or perhaps my mind is playing tricks (again)

Thanks

David

The only documentary with the title Lions Led By Donkeys in the BFI Film and Television Index is a Channel 4 documentary from 1985. It does not specifically credit Robin Bailey, and his imdb page lists no narrator duties for anything likely.

Might there have been a conflation with "Battle of the Somme" presented by Leo McKern in 1976? (And available on You Tube)

Thanks for your reply.

A friend off forum has come across the programme.

Thanks

David

There was a program some years ago, on similar lines narrated by Leo Kearns.

Robin Bailey (Uncle Mort in "I didn't know you cared" and the Brigadier from "Tales from the Long Room") could never be conflated with Leo Kearns
