stevem49 Posted 22 January , 2012 Share Posted 22 January , 2012 Hello A lady has contacted me, as her Grandfather served with 9th Sherwoods. The family story is that he was sent out to Archangel sometime in 1918 but I cannot find an evidence of this. No N & D Battalions went to Archangel. He was 13357 Pte William Henry Allen and apparently his pal Harold Garner shared the same fate. The story is that when freed they had a rail pass to the Russian border and then had to walk home, taking 6 weeks! His MIC is of little help and his records did not survive. Are there any records were I could prove or disprove this? Any help will be gratefully received Steve
corisande Posted 4 April , 2012 Share Posted 4 April , 2012 Steve, I found this when looking for something else. It only gives the officers Also two TNA references - if you get to look them up, can you see if a Col Richard John Andrews is mentioned FO 181/974/6 Prisoners of war, Russia FO 608/203/2 report by a British POW Capt J B Wilson
