I have recently come across some research that was done on the fallen of Cradley Heath, broken down, street by street. The following is a list of men who died from Congreaves Road:

Can anyone help fill in any spaces or help with any other streets?

Thanks

It would be great to see a copy of the Rowley Regis information.

I got the information about Cradley Heath from an old Black Country Bugle, but I forget which one.

By the way, there are some good articles in this week's BCB, (No 622, 29th July):

- an article and photo about Orchard Lane School during the Great War;

- information on the Remembrance Concert at Dudley Town Hall this coming November;

- a fantastic photo of Cradley Heath folks on a day trip to Rhyl just before the outbreak of war;

- a fantastic set of photos about a lad from Brierley Hill.

I often start avenues of research based on what I've read in the BCB.

Thanks

Old post.  I hope it is still active.  One of my Great Uncle's was Private George Homer, S/N 20002, he served with the 4 bat Worcestershire Regiment and died on 06/08/1915, which would suggest he died in the Krithia debacle at Galipoli.

Like many others in that debacle, he has no grave, just a reference on panel 104 at the Helles Memorial.

Is he on the Cradley Heath Roll of Honour?

He was the son of Mrs Charlotte Homer of 88 Foxoak St, Cradley Heath, Staffs.  The family were all chain makers.

The sole memory of this chap in my family was my grandmother telling me he had 'the voice of a canary'.

I would appreciate any other information people can provide.

Welcome. Best to create a new thread. Title: name, number and Regiment, cradley Heath. It will get lost here. The main posters here have not been on the site for some time. In one case 8 years

medal Card and rolls show he went to Gallipoli on 22/5/15. This is after the main body of the 4 Worcs who landed Cape Helles 25/4/15.

Soldiers Died in Great War List says born Stockton-on-Tees. Enlisted Stourbridge. Resided Cradley Heath.

His Effects and War Gratuity went to his father Elijah. War Gratuity is £3 so I believe that means he was in army less than a year.

edit - found the family in Stockton in 1901 and 1911. Elijah is a chain maker

Birth reg jul to sept 1894 in Stockton

his mother born in Rowley Regis. Father says several places in the area but probably also Rowley. He died in 1920 and explains why not mentioned on the CWGC site.
