The father (Andrew Hawkins) was originally living in Totnes in Devon, and he married Alice in Kensington in 1897. Their two sons, Andrew and David, were born in Devon. By the late 1890s the family had moved to Potters Bar, in Hertfordshire (then Middlesex), and then moved to Bedford (by, or before 1910), and then to nearby Ampthill.
