Remembered Today:

My Grandfather - RAF, c.1918–19

Peter Doyle

Recommended Posts

I've just restored the attached photograph, which shows my grandfather George Sydney Daniel (also known as Sydney George Daniel, right) in early RAF uniform, with a matelot mate. I have little documentary material other than some excellent images of aircraft, of many types, ranging from SE5 to RE8. I have several crash images also. I know that he was in Dublin for a time, as one of the images has Colinstown on the back - but other than this, I know nothing. Any help, tips, advice or views gratefully received.

Best regards

Thanks for the idea, sadly, he was from Sheffield. His photos include others with RFC uniform, so I guess he joined with the RAF at the end of the war. The cap tally on the sailor looks like [HMS] Radstock, by the way.

Thanks very much
