Guest fergie123 Posted 5 January , 2012 Posted 5 January , 2012 I have been researching my wifes fathers great uncle. So far i have been able to determin his name Alexander Caw, his age when he was killed in action 19, his regiment the 8th Battalion Seaforth Highlanders, he was a private who died on the 29th September 1915.He was awarded the Victory medal, the British war medal and the 1914/15 Star. He was the son of Alexander and Elizabeth Ferguson Tully Caw from Scotland. I would love to find more details of Alexander, his short life pre war, a photo of him or any photos or imformation on his regiment. Thank you.
Sandie Hayes Posted 5 January , 2012 Posted 5 January , 2012 Lance Corporal S/2695 Alexander Caw 8th Bttn, Seaforth Highlanders first went to France on 8th July 1915. He was Killed in Action on the 25th September 1915, his body was never found and he is commemorated on the Loos Memorial. He was just 19 years old. He lived at 1259 Shettleston Rd., Glasgow and his name is recorded on the Roll of Honour at Shettleston Old Parish Church, Killin Street, Glasgow. This page will tell you about his regiment and battalion: http://www.1914-1918.net/seaforth.htm
Guest loos25th Posted 30 May , 2014 Posted 30 May , 2014 Sorry, bit late to this post. Little bit of (probably useless) information. Only two Alexander Caws were killed in WW1, your Alexander Caw and an Alexander Allan Caw both on the same day...strange, sad coincidence. Currently researching first day of Loos casualties, to my mind a far more emotive day than the more well known and collected first day of the Somme
